A Room of One's Own: 7-day Writing Residency (Summer)
With Esther Kalaba M.A., R.P.
July 20 - 27, 2025
Sit down, be quiet & write that book you have always dreamed of writing (or just finally finish that PhD!).
This writing residency is held four times a year @ the SEED lodge (once a season) to allow you to show up in the peaceful countryside and devote your precious time to bringing your creative work to life.
So you want to write…
You have a creative project that has been pulling on your heart strings for years now, but just can’t seem to make the time for it. Too many distractions, there is always something more important to do.
What would you give for some uninterrupted time and precious silence?

Imagine:
7-days out of your daily life & responsibilities to immerse yourself completely in your writing life. You can book these weeks in advance so that you know that you are dedicating time in your busy life to work on the things that really matter.
Be part of a creative hub of 9 people with a love of words and writing (at all levels of experience) who gather and commit to their practice.
Have a room of your own, a desk, and unlimited tea and coffee.
Feel supported as you show up and work on your writing every day.
Inspire and be inspired.

Your words finally can be expressed.
Having the option to audio record your work in our studio.
Enjoying the countryside, going for walks or a swim after a long day of sitting at a desk and working.
You will receive:
A beautiful private room with a single bed and a desk @ the SEED Lodge
The ability to walk amongst rolling hills and large expanses of sky, forest, field and flowers, which, is the ideal respite after intense hours of writing
Lovely and functional common areas both indoors and out for you to relax at, write, dream or meditate

Residents are expected to bring their own food and prepare their own meals. Catering is an option for either breakfast/lunch and/or dinner (please see costs on application form). In order to keep costs down, we only provide catering options if there is sufficient interest.
All bedding is provided. Residents bring their own towels and toiletries. Kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, cookware and bBQ is available. Residents are expected to clean up after themselves.
Because of the nature of this type of retreat, noise is kept to a minimum to respect the work space. There are optional group activities that may be planned such as hiking to local waterfalls, or swimming at the beach.
Writers must be independent and able to work in a quiet manner that respects other participants.
While not officially programmed, we do offer times when writers can share their work with others and ask for feedback. This is done on a voluntary basis and not a requirement of the residency.
This writing residency is not a vacation or an Airbnb. It is a place for aspiring writers or actual writers to get their work done. You will need to fill out an application form and share a bit about the project that you want to be working on while you stay here at the lodge.
A lot of people might hesitate to call themselves writers. For our purposes, whether you have published or not, if you love writer and want to write, you are a writer. What you should have is a writing project in mind and be able to tell us why it is important for you.
We ask that noise is restricted after 10pm and the indoor kitchen is not used for food preparation during the night..
Other art modalities are welcome as long as they amenable to working at a desk. We will have other art residencies in the future once the art room is set up and going. Graphic novels, illustration etc… are welcome to apply and we will try to accomodate you as best as we can.
Scholarships and Work-Exchange:
At the moment we cannot offer any scholarships, however we do offer one work-exchange position to access the residency at a reduced cost. Please let us know on your application if this is something that you would need.
Retreats are held once every season so mark your calendar in advance and join us.
